Grey Heron
January to June is is my favourite time to photograph the Herons not far from I live.
This year 10 pairs nested, and now the chicks have grown and are learning to fly, some have already left the nest.
Today I watched as one chick climbed out of the nest and stepped onto a branch, he walked along it as if he was walking a tight rope, I actually found myself holding my breath.
The parents leave the nests for long periods now and on this beautiful Spring day I could see them here and there not to far away just relaxing in the sun.
I think that my photo is a young Heron as it had been sitting for some time next to a much older one who seemed to be watching to see if the youngster could fend for hmself.
These birds are so magnificent, I have been photographing them now for three years and they still fill me with wonder.
