Up For The Cup

I was in Manchester today working. Several thousand FC Schalke 04 supporters were also in town for this evening's European cup tie at Old Trafford.

They were grouped around the Triangle for most of the day and then just after 5 pm they moved off en masse with a large police escort to the ground. The singing and chanting echoed around the streets and it created a great atmosphere which was not in the least bit threatening.

Only downside for me was that it added to the usual rush hour traffic congestion and delayed my return home.

I think that this is as close as they will come to holding the cup but as someone once said "Football is a funny old game."
