Howley Weir

Howley Weir on the River Mersey in Warrington.
The Mersey is tidal from Howley Weir (20 miles inland), although high spring tides often top the weir. A small bypass around Howley Weir, Howley Lock, was created before the ship canal existed, but is now redundant.
