Gordale Scar

We took some students to Malham today and had a walk out past Janet's Foss to Gordale Scar. I love waiting for that moment when newcomers walk round the corner and step into the huge open topped cavern which is the Scar. It has the habit of silencing even the noisiest teenager!

As it's been so dry for some time, the waterfall wasn't as impressive as in situ's taken in winter, but it is still pretty awesome. It's possible to climb up the side of the waterfall, out of the rift and continue on across the moor, with splendid views, to Malham Tarn and then complete the circular trip by walking across Malham Cove (which featured in the latest Harry Potter Movie!) before returning to the village - lots of great geological sites in one small area!
