Hay Shed

Lovely cold, bright morning with snow on the tops of the hills. Super blue sky between big fluffy clouds. When we were children there was a saying "enough for a Dutchman's trousers" when there were bits of blue sky - was it just a family saying or did/does anyone else say it?

Up at the ponies the sun was shining on the shed door, where I keep their hay. Hope the winter doesn't last much longer as the bales are getting less and less.

Because of the weather over the past few summers, a lot of farmers have stopped making hay, which needs good dry weather, and now concentrate on making silage, ie fermented grass, to feed animals on over the winter. Those farmers who still make hay now make it in big round bales, which need machinery to move and handle them. Getting small square ones for the ponies is quite tricky, and they were as scarce as hens teeth last year.

That's your agricultural lesson over for today, folks! Hope you have blue skies where you are . . . .
