Alas the Bell Bridge down the colonies is to be reduced to firewood to make way for flood defences, so a fair few of the locals pitched up to see it off in style.

It was a heartwarming community gathering of all ages, each with a story to tell, like the old man who played on it 40 years ago as his kids do now.

It's replacement, when it eventually comes, sounds like a sombre, practical thing in comparison to the wooden slatted curves. The unstoppable march of progress continues ever forth.
