Church of the Holy Rude

This HDR photo features the Church of the Holy Rude in Stirling, Scotland nestling on a hill overlooking the old town buildings of Stirling.

'Holy Rude' means 'Holy Cross'. The original church was founded in 1129 but was destroyed along with much of Stirling in a fire in 1405. A new church was commissioned and was finished c1414.

In July 1567 James VI, the infant son of Mary Queen of Scots, was crowned King of Scots in the Holy Rude. The Holy Rude along with Westminster Abbey in London are reputed to be the only 2 living churches in the UK to have hosted a coronation. See www.Holyrude.org for more information about this church.

The clock tower to the left of the Holy Rude is the Tolbooth. I'll do a blip on that some time.

Hope you enjoy the photo and brief details of this historic church.
