Island Pumpkin
I had written off my garden plot, since no sprouts were appearing since the seeds went in. I thought the squirrels had won again. But lo and behold, one of my heirloom pumpkins has poked up its head. This a Long Island Cheese Pumpkin, and it's native to the same island as I am. The word cheese occurs because the fruit has a flavor and consistency that reminds one of another New York dish, cheese cake!
