Antonine Wall, Bonnybridge
Built by the Roman legions under Antoninus Pius to defend the "peaceful" south from the barbarian Pictish north sometime around 140 ad.
It runs from the Clyde at Bowling to the Forth near Bo'ness and still shows how the Romans built this defensive system. Unlike the better known Hadrians wall, this is primarily a turf rampart, not stone, with a ditch to the north (big bad boys side) and a supply road to the south for the good guys.
Today was a cracking day to stroll along the old rampart, listening to the bird-song and the breeze in these old oaks.
We actually got a double dose as MaggieD found that her camera case was missing when we got back to the car so we had to retrace our steps. Glad to say, we found the case quite easily.
As a bonus, a canal boat sailed past as we were there which was good to see.
Off to a friends house tonight for a wee get together for a friend who is going to Thailand to live.
