Mountain & Cave Rescue Awareness Day, 2nd May

This is a blip of my photo which was published in 2 local papers, The Keswick Reminder and The Lake District Herald, both on page 2.

I'm pretty pleased about seeing my photos in print, however both papers have been naughty. The reminder has given my photo to the herald without my permission, and the herald have published it without my authorisation so some emails will be fired off in a bit.

Anyway back to the point of today's blip. My photo depicts money raised by Rohan in Keswick being handed over to the Keswick Mountain Rescue Team, as today is mountain rescue awareness day I thought it was an apt photo, especially as my other half, also known as Mountain Travels is also a member of the Keswick MRT.

Some facts about Mountain Rescue teams:

There are 54 teams with 3,500 team members covering England and Wales.
Team members are on call 24 hrs a day every day of the year.
All team members are volunteers and do not get paid.
Most team members have day jobs.
Training and rescuing demands a very high commitment from the team members.
Tremendous support and understanding is necessary from partners, wives, husbands, family and employers.
Teams are self sufficient but are charities with hardly any external funding.
Teams need to raise around £30,000 to £70,000 each year to keep going.
Funding comes from donations and fundraising activities.
There are over 1,100 rescues each year in England and Wales, over half in the Lake District.
A typical rescue may involve up to 20 team members for around 6 hours on average.
