Lake at Holme Fen
This is a favourite place for my friend and I. We drive out to Holme Fen often and love to watch its changing 'faces' through the seasons. Last time we were here, in early March, the trees were bare and we could see cormorants sitting in their nests in the tall trees in the background; ferns were only just unfurling and there was no sign of flowers on the rhododendrons. Today, the trees are covered in green leaf, the ferns are about 2ft high and the rhododendrons were in full bloom.
Holme Fen, near Peterborough, is the lowest place in England and when we are walking through the woods we are 2 metres below sea level.
My friend and I often sit at this very spot - she brings the tea, I bring the biscuits and it's just bliss to look out onto the lake and spot the geese, ducks, coots and other birds... We've been friends for 32 years and met the day our sons were born just hours apart from each other.
For the record: 20C, sunny
