Wedding on the Chessboard
The chessmen play at weddings,
The happiest they've been.
The king is groom, Prince William;
Kate Middleton, the queen.
The pawns sing in the choir,
Their hymns and psalms and airs.
One bishop hears the couple's vows,
Another leads the prayers.
But for the congregation,
See who they now invite:
The pews are full of Lego (men?)
No, creatures - all polite,
Except a few; these commoners
Don't all remove their hats!
But no-one minds, this happy day,
Cos everybody's bats!
The Lego creatures all admire
The chessman, made of wood;
For they are common plastic,
But their hearts are just as good.
So let's all raise our glasses
To toast the bride and groom:
"William and Catherine"
So my ditty ends: boom-boom!

This isn't the first occasion of fun for the chessmen. Previously they have been on holiday, enjoyed the garden and played the fool. But this is the first time they have mixed with commoners!
