This is the Caledonian Macbrayne vessel Sound of Shira, plying betwen Largs and the Isle of Cumbrae on the Clyde.

Greater Cumbrae is only 8 miles round and completely flat, so on nice days it is a great place for families to go and cycle. Little Cumbrae lies slightly to the south and is not open to the public.

Ewen MacGregor once made a guest appearance on the drama ER, and his character made numerous references to this crossing.

Just a few metres off this slip lies the wreck of a WW2 Catalina flying boat - still an attractive dive for scuba enthusiasts.
