not again.............
so, i was quite happily watching the simpsons when during the ad break i saw a trailer for "the colour of magic" which is a book written by terry pratchett. the people at sky have already brought his book "the hogfather" to the screen and appear to be doing the same again except this time with the first book in the the discworld series.
now i relise that i am already starting to sound like a bit of a fanatic but i am honestly not. however i do enjoy the discworld books, have done since the beginning, and i can only thank my mate stephen for passing me the colour of magic to read way back in the day.
so i feel i am getting away from my gripe, it's not the actual conversion to the big screen that bothers me, i am quite happy about it if it's done well and stays true to the original tale. my problem is with the casting. all bar susan and mr teatime in "the hogfather" were very poorly cast and can somebody please tell me how david "bloody" jason got in there? i mean really, albert is a skinny, angry, spiteful old man with a grudge against pretty much everything and who do they cast? thats right that short arse tosser who would look more at home sitting by a garden pond holding a fishing rod.
my big fear for the upcoming tv movie is that they have cast this tool in the lead role, which again he is just not suited. not if you have read the books anyway.
sadly i did want another book in the shot but it appears to have gone missing again. i have now lost track of the number of copies of "fear and loathing in las vegas" i have bought over the years. i have passed them on to other folk in the hope that they will enjoy it too and it's good to pass books around friends, you may just end up reading something you normally wouldn't and benefit from the experience....................anyway i digress (what a suprise).
the reason i wanted fear and lothing was that it's transfer onto the big screen was brilliant. two top actors (johnny depp and benicio del toro) played there parts to a T. now i realise sky won't pull in names like that but surely you can have a better collaberation with mr pratchett and come up with something better than david "trotter?" jason. sorry if the names wrong but i never enjoyed that pile of shite either. yes i know there are a lot of "only fools & horses" fans out there but they did drag that show on way too long.
i also just realised that i never mentioned "stardust". having only got into neil gaiman's stuff over the last year the book was still fresh in my mind. even though this has had the full hollywood treatment, including some big name stars i still felt let down after watching the movie last night. again i still refer to fear & loathing as a classic example of how it should be done (there is a slight bias with me loving hunter's work) but he didn't direct the film.
bet you all hope i get out of this house tomorrow so i can blip something that won't cause the bile to rise.
have a great weekend folks.............
