Boscawen-un - Nine Maidens

Early morning cycle ride to see this bronze age stone circle. Sitting in the dewey grass with larks singing and the sweet fragrance of gorse in the air in was easy to imagine the ceremonies that have happened here therough the ages. Perhaps once upon a time even royal weddings?

Today however it was a tranquil haven away from all the wedding fever.

There are 19 stones in the circle. The western stone (white one on the right) is quartz the rest are granite. Nine Maidens refers not to the number of stones but to the phases of the moon.

We've left cornwall and are headed home to meet Rob who's in the air on his way back from India. So We're swapping one off-spring for the other. Looking forward to hearing his adventure stories!
