A Damsel Not in Distress

I was quite surprised to find this lil madam in my garden today. She was fluttering along side the mint moths that seem to have taken residence.

I love these and dragonflies, though i don't get to see many so was really happy too.

Did you know:

The long, thin bodies of damselflies, darting to and fro, have been likened to the hand stitching of a sewer as the needle passes in and out of the cloth. This has given rise to English folk names such as Devil?s Darning Needle or Granny?s needle.

No i didn't either..

Also:

There are only two species of red and black damselfly in Britain, the Large Red Damselfly and the Small Red Damselfly. The Large Red Damselfly, being around a whole 5mm bigger than the smaller one. Furthermore it can be distinguished by its black legs and the broad red, or occasionally yellow, shoulder stripes. The Small Red Damselfly has red legs and very narrow or non-existant shoulder stripes. There are three colour forms of female Large Red Damselfly ranging from a nearly all black form with yellow shoulder stripes to females that have almost as little black on the abdomen as a male. The most common female form is partway between these extremes having extensive black markings only on the last four segments of the abdomen and red shoulder stripes.

Today is my dd3's 9th birthday, shes gone to school dressed as a princess including a gold tiara (hope she looks after it lol) They are closing the roads around the school for them this afternoon so they can have a street party to celebrate the royal wedding. A bday she won't forget huh.

Im gonna go make some fruit scones now i think, shame the shop didn't have any clotted cream left, so we have jam, spray cream and strawberries to have with them instead lol
