House Sparrow

Once there were lots of these birds in the UK, now they are struggling to survive and are on the Red list. In the 1970s there were an estimated 12 million and now that has dropped by over 60%. Some of the reasons is because of ornamental plants such as Leylandii, the removal of trees and loss of woody shrubs leaving too few insects to feed chicks and the conversion of front gardens for parking with decking in the back.
