Images of the Coromandel 5

Have had the most ferocious storm blowing around us for about 5 days now. It has returned again with vengence and it is howling around the house again after a brief peaceful interlude. On the beach a huge amount of debris has blown in. I can remember once wandering the beaches of Cornwall in England and finding all sorts of rubbish after a storm, but here it is all organic and apparently recently alive sort of "stuff". There are several fish heads, which is a testament to recent succesful fishing in the bay rather than some natural disaster.
This is the remains of a snapper or schnapper depending on how well you learnt to spell! It is a beautiful white fleshed fish and a favourite dinner. They can grow to huge sizes and around 50-60 years old they tell me, so this one is well short, being only just legal sized, a baby. Unfortunately it was not our dinner last night!
Having trouble with internet because of the storm and are grateful for continued power and open roads. Tomorrow we leave early to travel to Auckland airport as we think the roads may be flooded. We will leave at low tide to give us the best chance to get through low lying coastal areas prone to floods. We have a huge Toyota Land Cruiser so it can take a bit of punishment, its the whimpy city girl at the wheel with only a 10 year old son and a mini schnauzer to egg her on, that may be the problem!
