the bongo diaries

my little pony

Driving along the Hartcliff ridge above Stocksbridge, I stopped alongside a field of horses dozing in the sun. Horses can sleep standing up and lying down. They're able to enter light sleep by using a 'stay apparatus' in their legs, allowing them to doze without collapsing. Horses sleep better in groups because some will sleep while others stand guard. The mother of this little chap, new to the world, wasn't far away and was keeping a close eye on me.
