Orchardleigh House
We went for a lovely walk around the grounds of Orchardleigh today. It's a country estate in Somerset which dates back to the Doomsday Book. In 800 years, the estate was owned by just two families.
The current house was built in in 1856 for William Duckworth, and remained in the family until the last male descendant, Arthur Duckworth, died in 1986. The estate includes a little island church. Arthur, like many of the other Duckworths, was laid to rest overlooking the lake.
The 800 acres of grounds is now a golf course, which is crossed by public footpaths, while the house is a wedding venue.
