Cheap macro attachments are useless? Pah!

A bit annoying when your subject is very small and fidgety and you have a depth of field of about half a millimetre...

The light bits on the underside of this ladybird are miniscule hairs caught in the sunlight. And the bright bit on its left hand side is a tiny water droplet. The shell actually looks thick in this photo!
