Aperitivo

Milan has a fantastic aperitivo culture. This means that in all bars around the city offer food from 6pm until 9pm when you buy a drink. In some places they bring a plate to you but in most places it's a self-service buffet. It's not meant to be a meal but a small snack to keep you from getting too tipsy (the cocktails are quite strong...) and to wake up ypur appetite. Although in all honesty I have to say that I didn't need a meal after the aperitivo and still wonder how Italian stay so petite after eating plates of aperitivos AND proper dinner.
