Raven on Marwick Head
Isn't this a great bird? I think I photographed him before (May 15th 2009 according to files) because it seems unlikely that two different birds would be so indifferent to a nearby human...I was only about 9 metres away. He even drank from a pool. I think it's a 'he' because of the throat feathers and the female should be on eggs.
I started early, 8am, at the hide at the marshland called The Loons, then down to The Choin at Marwick, made coffee at Sandy Geo, then up onto the cliffs at Marwick Head and along to Birsay village. Lots of birds but the auks seem to have disappeared suddenly, hopefully temporarily.
Lots more portraits here.
