Wisteria sinensis

Today's the day ................... for the colour purple

We love wisteria in our family. I love it specially because of its colour and wherever we have lived, one of the first things we do in the garden is to find a good spot to plant one.

They usually take quite a few years to get established and even more to produce the wonderful lilac-coloured flowers which appear just ahead of the sage-green leaves. They are at their best after about seven years - which until we came to Kendal was the longest we had ever lived anywhere. So it became a saying in our family that - when the wisteria flowers, it's time to move on.

In September this year, we will have lived in Kendal for twenty years - and the wisteria? Well, it's bloomin' marvellous ...........................
