Watering

Really really good day today. The sun shone, I wore shorts as promised. I was not sick once! I only started feeling sick late into the day when I was topping up the tummy with toast waiting for dinner but dinner was a very late cobbled together affair... It wasn't too bad though.

We have finally planted my gooseberry bush that I bought last year. The picture is of Ben and dad watering it well. Ben did a lot of watering for me today, his aim has definitely improved on last year where he mainly managed to water his feet and could barely lift the little greeny-yellow watering can in this picture.

After my deckchair gardening session (where I lamented my lack of a large brimmed floppy sunhat which would have completed the picture) we had lunch and then while I was still feeling good and before Ben's naptime we decided to go out to B&Q forsome bits and pieces. Ben and dad ran riot around the store and garden centre while I ambled slowly around the plants trying to remember what we'd gone in for. Came out with bolts to fix the picnic bench with, some more plants for next to the climbing frame and one for the front garden, and a couple of strawberry plants. A little alpine strawb self-seeded itself in one of my pots last autumn and by winter had flowered and was valiently trying to produce a single tiny strawberry. I hope it doesn't feel inferior by the strawb plants I've just bought... but they're something easy that Ben can help me plant, and we can watch grow over the summer.

Bedtime was fraught. I think Ben was over-tired, and the sun had got him a bit, and he needed a bath very badly but said it hurt so he yelled his way through it - very out of character for him. Once he was in bed though finally he calmed down and was asleep quickly. We finished off the evening watching The Notebook, which I went and bawled through.....
