The Little Bluebirds of Happiness

The little bluebirds are working on their nest. The female is in the nest and that is the male on the outside. This is one of my birdhouses. I grow birdhouse gourds, let them dry a few months & these then become birdhouses. The cavity dwelling birds do seem to enjoy them. Most birds don't seem to mind when they swing back and forth in the wind.(and they really swing sometime) The tree swallows & Carolina wren have also occupied houses this year, Not all will stay or raise a brood, sometimes you have to check out a lot of houses to find the perfect one....

The bluebird is the Eastern Bluebird. To me, they are a real treat to have in the yard and garden. They are ground feeders and like bugs. One thing I didn't know about the bluebirds until today is; the male picks a possible nest sight, brings a bit of nesting materials to it and then sits at the nest waving his wings trying to attract a mate... then guess who has to put the nest together and set up housekeeping. haha. right the momma bluebird...
