Airidh on the Pentland moor

Had a very calm crossing of the Minch and spent the day renewing old friendships here on the Isle of Lewis. Grey and misty al day but when it got a little brighter I made a quick trip up to the Pentland road to take a blip of an old sheiling or airidh in Gaelic. There are many of these old structures at the side of the road and they used to be used by the crofters when they would bring the cattle and sheep out onto the moor for the summer grazing. The families would make a bit of a holiday of it and spend some time out here.

This airidh has been kept in good repair and is possibly still used for the occasional fishing trip or overnight stay. Hoping for a brighter day tomorrow!
