A good haul
Huw and Sarah carry home the razor clam catch across Goodwick Beach. We gathered 40 in all and an Ocean Quahog to boot.
This is end of the valley that divides the village of Goodwick on the right from Fishguard on the other side - the road thither ascends to the left. Much of this area was once dry land but rising sea levels after the last Ice Age submerged a large expanse and created a marshy area which lies across the road from the beach.
Today's receding tide has left ripple marks on the sand which is pockmarked with lugworm casts, each topped by a coil of extruded sand. A brook debouches onto the shore creating wide stretches of shallow water, warmed by the day's sunshine.
A pleasant afternoon's occupation with the prospect of good eating ahead.
