Chinese Puzzle....
I took a stroll around Godmanchester (it's the other side of the A14 and ECML from Huntingdon) this morrning while taking a break from work. Our office is on the river a short distance away from this shot of the Chinese Bridge over the River Ouse in Godmanchester.
I have often wondered why there is a Chinese Bridge in Godmanchester as, in all other respects, it is a very picturesque, almost picture postcard, classic English village. The River Ouse meanders leisurely through the village and there is a giant bend in the river next to the road that turns the river into a very lage natural pool.
During my walk I saw the 'pool', th Chinese Bridge, the spired Church and a number of timber framed buildings, pubs and grand houses. Crossing the river takes you through park land and along the backs of the houses are a number of, very quaint, boathouses big enough for a dinghy or perhaps two. Some of the boathouses are playing host to Swallows who, having arrived for the summer, are flying acrobatically around like fast jets at an airshow.
