The Dalyell's and Grandad's Old Camera

Loaded up the Brownie 620 and headed of with the boys to the House Of The Binns; the ancestral home of the Dalyells. Wandered about with the boys trying their best not to irritate the peacocks (or keycocks as Alex christened them). Managed to find the remains of a rabbit and Callum went all Backshall on us trying to identify the predator (weird hearing your kid using words like predator).

In between running about I managed to shoot a roll of film on Grandad's old camera. Great fun!! metered off the DSLR and it's not made to much of a hash of the exposure, quick youtube on how to get it on a spiral and I was away. Never used medium format on the scanner and had to have a few goes and here it is. The first shot out of it in about 40 years. Very happy with the results though there is some mental flare on the shot, you can see where the sun was from the tree shadow. I'm going to check one of the other shots in subdued lighting to make sure I don't have a leaky bellows. But I'm a bit chuffed with that.

The tower...oh aye. In the early 1800's there as a very jolly dinner party when several well monied individuals partook of a bet to see who could waste £100 in the most frivolous and original manner. This was the winner, he only spent £29 in the end which I think let's you know how much £100 was worth.... oh what a laugh...arseholes.

Techy update: Film was Neopan 100 developed with this stuff 1 plus 9 at 20C (well 19.8 actually....). Don't do a huge amount of developing these days so I thought I'd try this soft pack to see if I can squeeze more life out out it. Exposure was 1/125 at f8 or f11. That was what the EOS 50D was saying but I'm wondering if it was leading to under exposure. I'm going to run an FP4 through the EOS 5 and develop that to see if there was a developer issue but I'm really quite careful with the science bit (well I'm a degree trained chemist after all....). Scanned on the V700 and then a wee bit of level work on Aperture, for some reason Silver eFex pro kept crashing when I tried to open the file. I'll scan the rest tonight to see what the issue is with the flare though probably I'm just too used to modern lens coatings and lens hoods. Another note to self.... cut negs in pairs, much easir to get onto the neg carrier!!
