A Private View

I've seen this piece of art many times but never stopped to look at it. Today I did. It sits out on the Taff Viaduct leading into Cardiff Bay and was designed in 1995 by an artist called Kevin Atherton. He called it 'A Private View' and it's a self sculpture. When it was first produced, there was a telescope leading from the statue's eye to the other side of the sphere providing a view across the bay. You could take in the view by peering through the hole in the back of the statue's head (bizarrely) but vandals quickly put an end to that.
