The Family Kettle

The family kettle has been unpolished for a while and it was black and sad when I lifted it into a box over two years ago.

I brought it back to Spain at the beginning of the month because I thought I had the perfect place for it here on my wood burning stove. It has taken me over an hour to get it to this stage; well actually maybe longer, it was the length of The Archers Omnibus, Desert Island Discs and the Unbelievable Truth on BBC radio 4. And as I polished I remembered all the things I had forgotten about the kettle; looking at my face in it as a toddler, dragging it down the garden for play tea and of course polishing it with Mummy. It was always a fascinating object and I am please to say it still is.
