Doo lough

A gorgeous day - we abandoned everything and went for a mighty hike . We started off at the very tip of the Sheepshead peninsula and took the south route up towards an old signal tower and then looped round walking back on the very small road. For most of the track we were high enough to see both sides of the peninsula - to the north Bantry Bay and Kerry, to the south Dunmanus Bay and the Mizen peninsula - I must try a map location thingy. Anyway, it was breath-taking, an amazing light and very clear, and from the top you can see how everywhere is dotted with little loughs. Needless to say we passed various derelict buildings including an old pillbox from WW2. We had a well deserved cuppa at the cafe at the end - a wonderful bonus after a hard slog.

Not much time for lingering as we are now going out to tree party!! Lisa and her wwoofer, Doriane, have just planted over 900 trees, some of them quite big ones - all indigenous, for which she gets a grant. She is wrecked but feeling very fit and is having a farm walk and get together to celebrate. It's a nice evening too. Will catch up tomorrow.

PS We saw a wonderful film last night - Of Gods and Men. There were only 6 of us in the cinema but it was an amazing film about a very small group of monks living in the Atlas mountains, working contentedly with their Islamic flock. Then the Muslim extremists start to get closer and are massacring anyone who is not of their thinking, and the monks have to decide whether to stay or go. I'll say no more. It was very slow paced, beautifully shot and very thought provoking. A film about love really. And a true story.
