Anthology
I think the reason that I quite enjoy love libraries is because of the history contained in them. The thousands of spines containing texts written hundreds and thousands of years ago, with more information than you could ever hope to absorb in a hundred or thousand lifetimes. The thought of how many finger pads that have happened along the leather bound rows, looking for something to educate them further. It's like going back in time.
Which I think is why I adore the Highlands of Scotland. I think it's one of the few places on earth that I have visited so far that broadcasts its history for all to see. Driving along the single track road past the crumbling castles, stumbling across a half dilapidated croft beside a white sand beach, taking in the still visible regular lines of the runrigs in the fields. It's just like walking down one of the stacks of history texts. But it's even better: there is no finding involved...it's just there, for all the world to see. The land is proud of where it has come from, and the tragic history that it pays a tribute to will never be forgotten.
Another family member remarked on what an eyesore this burnt out Volkswagen was, but I disagree. I think it's just another addition to the ever increasing anthology of the Highland history.
And I thought it was kinda pretty.
