Self Carving
A friend of mine gave me a knife blank, to make a custom knife with. I do a great deal of wood working and have used 1 (one) knife for ALL of it, until now. I have been looking for a good replacement knife and nothing I saw that I could buy, fit what I wanted. So I took this opportunity to make my own handle on this one (for my use, the handle is equally as important as the blade). The wood here is birch, cut down my self, and hand carved into the right shape to fit my hands. The really hard part is getting the holes to line up just right. It is not done yet, I still need to drill one more hole in the knife. I will be attaching the wood handle with 2 home made dowels just exactly the same size as the hole (if not just a hair bigger) and will be pressed in with some wood glue, then the sanding will commence to get it silky smooth and then a beautiful mahogany stain to finish it. All of the carving of these handles has been done with this knife (which is already sharp). I suppose working wood will be much easier once it is completed. I will show this finished product soon (i hope)
