I wish my Dad would stop buying "bargains" from Lidl's. They're invariably things he doesn't need, and at a price that reflects the quality!
Thankfully he doesn't try to repair them himself. When someone arrives with a suspicious looking poly bag, and the conversation contains - "I had a go at fixing it myself..." you know there's going to be trouble. There'll be missing and broken bits, and if it's not presented as a jigsaw, it won't have been put back together properly. Other folks won't admit that they've had a go, but will be found out. Then it'll be another classic - "Oh, was that bit important?"
