MES....
...has got talent.
Here's Sherif. He's in 5 Yellow - Mr. Byrne's class. He has a 3 part act. Blowing socks, sticking plastic in his eye, and revealing his ribs. But before all that, lets just have a little back ground info.
A colleague of mine, Pete Burn, re-assured me today that there was a dent in his classroom wall where he has had to constantly bash his head. His classes 'special' qualities being well known among the staff. I really didn't know the extent of this until this week: mixed class art week.
Wind the clock back to Monday, and I meet Rodina, who upon the instruction, 'now colour in the hand (they had drawn around into their books) using one of the wax crayons,' literally coloured in the hand she had drawn around and asked me why the wax wasn't working.
Now, wind the clock forward to the talent show auditions. Sherif runs into, then out of, the room. I'm assuming he's in the wrong place. He then returns with a tray full of water that is spilling everywhere and introduces his act. Shortly after he preceedes to dip a sock in water and blow it like a balloon. His nonchalant nature making it an even more significant moment in my life. Beyond this he sticks a piece of plastic in his eye and closes it before stating 'now for the ribs,' showing his ribs, and then walking out of the room without his sock.
Not strictly a talent, but the most mindblowing and unique individual performance I've come across. He made the final cut. Here is pictured on the day of the talent show. He is sockless because he forgot his stage sock. (This being the only thing he had to remember!) Within seconds he'd wipped his shoe and sock off and was dazzling the crowd. Then, cool as a cucumber, puts his wet sock back on and slips his foot into his shoe.
I'll never forget this moment in my life.
