The dark stuff on the floor in the bottom shot is water. Seems like the dishwasher waste has been leaking for a while. Good thing the floor is coming up.

One or more of the previous owners has thrown huge amounts of rat poison behind the cabinets somehow - maybe by lifting the gas cooktop - the remains of that had turned to a nice poisonous paste. Masks on when that bit of floor gets lifted - probably for all of it I guess...

Just out of shot in the foreground is a big lump of concrete that has to get broken up too. Something to do while everything dries out.
