Leaving Arizona
One day after our lunch with Sam (see yesterday's journal), we began our trip home, driving north on I-17 to Flagstaff to pick up route 40 east. Unfortunately, as I mentioned yesterday, snow was predicted and, sure enough, we drove into it at about 5000 feet elevation as we approached Sedona. Route 17 was closed because of an accident, so we had to detour through Sedona and up Oak Creek Canyon to get to Flagstaff. We had been to Oak Creek Canyon before, and we were aware of the switchbacks that make it such an interesting drive, especially in the snow. Along with being an interesting drive, it was a beautiful drive and a slow one. We only made it as far as Albuquerque, where we stopped for the night. Goodbye, sunny Arizona!
