making new friends

Living in an interior facing apartment in Manhattan leaves the view to be desired. Sometimes you stare at brick walls and dark windows. Other times you make awkward eye contact with your neighbors and you're not quite sure how to proceed. My roommate and I decided to break the ice by creating a rather rudimentary sign out of dry erase marker and paper towels. The exchange of messages has gone like this.

Us: "HEY"
Them: "HOLA"

...days where we weren't sure how to move the conversation along. stalling...stalling...

Them: *picture of martini* PHONE NUMBER

(Us: phew, they made the next move)


Us: text said phone number: "Nice artwork. [presuming the sign meant they wanted drinks, not that they were just thirsty] When and where?"

Them: Wednesday night.

Looks like we're about to make some new friends.
