Leaf examination...
In my studies I love the human body - I find the idea that a human body can rust amazing or that four rings in DNA can determine physical qualities. But I also love gardening, especially when I understand some of the biology, it makes it all the more fascinating too, in particular when roots and leaves get their tropism confused but manage to rectify the situation. This happens annually with some of my sunflower seeds, especially the giant ones - perhaps this is where 'more haste less speed' is appropriate. The seed leaves are often similar in shape to each other no matter what the species, but then you get the oddities like Ipomea which form perfect butterfly wings only to disappear later. Leaves are fascinating, the biochemistry that occurs in them is mind blowing, and I found my daughter examining one of her favourites - the mint leaf. Knowing Marmite the cat enjoys mint, I found in the back garden, that she had placed a large mint leaf on which four cat treats had been neatly arranged, in the area where the cat dozes on the sun warmed soil (which is also where my bulbs are coming up - but instantly forgiven).
So, of all the pictures of leaves I took today, this one rather summed it up.
