Lake Rotoiti
Back up to Lake Rotoiti today to pick up the students who've been at a Youth Jam there for the weekend. Before picking them up we ducked down to the Lake front to take a few pictures. It was surprisingly busy for this time of year, with a number of picnickers, various campervans and a variety of cars . There were a few yachts out at the top end of the lake and and even some photographers about.
Across on the far side, avoiding the bustle, was this chap with his rod out spending a peaceful Sunday afternoon. I have no idea if he caught anything but I don't think that was really the point. It was a decidedly dull and overcast day, the sun only managed to break through the cloud in a couple of spots to send those stripes of light across the lake.
For those of you who don't know, Lake Rototiti is one of the lakes in the Nelson Lakes National Park. It is totally surrounded by native bush and is the home of a variety of native birds. The lodge the kids stayed at is held by a trust and is on land administered by DOC (Department of Conservation).
The beauty of the native bush is best viewed large.
