Baseball Home Opener!
Today myself, Big R and son Martin went to Seattle Mariners home opener ballgame which was probably the worst played home opener we've ever seen from our team as the Cleveland Indians tromped us 12-3--it was an embarrassment for sure! But highlights of the night bringing tears to us all were the tribute to our announcer Dave Niehaus who died suddenly this past winter--he was the heart and soul of our team from 1977-2010. A street was named for him today as well as a huge banner put up in the ballpark. He is also in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Also our pitcher Felix Hernandez won the coveted Cy Young Award and Ichiro Suzuki was honored too. In the collage I show Ichiro running in on the red carpet--he was the first Japanese player to play in the American League for the Mariners. He now holds numerous records. A special moment of silence was held in remembrance of those lost in the horrific earthquake and tsunami and donations were collected. The Mariners are also donating a large part of these games profits to help out.
I have included a couple shots of the grounds crew preparing the field for play and scenes from the ball park looking at the city from where we sat. One shot shows the crew putting in the saying "myohmy" that Dave Niehaus was famous for. Even tho we lost it was a very special and memorable opener.
Sorry about Little commenting this past week...son is here visiting and helping out and I got quite sick with sinus and chest infection so saw doctor and got antibiotics ---but as you know...the game had to go on!!! (tickets cost an arm and a leg so I was going for sure and first time we ever went to an opener as a family!) Enjoy the weekend:)
