Wednesday: An Audience

So you won't believe what happened to us today!  We had an audience with the Pope!  Well, not quite but almost.........we headed down to St Peter's Square this morning and, as we approached, we noticed that there were hordes of tourists heading in the same direction.  It transpired that, every Wednesday, the Pope has a 'general audience' (for which read thousands can attend) for which you need a ticket.

It wasn't that busy today, maybe because it's not quite tourist season yet so we had a fair chance of seeing him.  One family, however, got tired of waiting and gave us their tickets so we actually got into the enclosure and ended up about 8 feet away from the Pope.  So I can now say that we have had an audience!

And then, our favourite: a long leisurely lunch with mezzo litro vino rosso......
