Nastia's Slow Little Days

Beloved Blue

I've been so bad about keeping on top of my blips that I'd forgotten this little photo shoot ever happened. There are lots of wild light-painting shots, but I keep coming back to this shot as my favorite, even though it's almost entirely bathed in light.

When I first started using Flickr, I had just started college, with a brand new Powerbook and iSight to boot. The webcam was my only camera at the time so I took lots of self-portraits that way, and those self-portraits from seven years ago really capture that time in my life exceedingly well. (One of my college friends and I coined the term, "think faces," an inside joke of sorts, for the style of many of those shots.) One of the best shots from that era was a smiling me pointing this very same beloved, blue flashlight at the webcam. I always thought it was such an amazing shot because the light from the flashlight didn't wash out the rest of the image. This capture, seven years down the road, is kind of the exact opposite, with something other than the flashlight, mainly a poor setting for shutter speed on the part of this camera operator, washing out the main subject of the photograph, the flashlight itself. :-)
