Baby leaves

This is a Gingko biloba tree in the botanic gardens. This species is one of my favourites as it has these amazing, bright green, fan shaped leaves. I really like that you can see the fan shape even when they are just emerging from the bud at the beginning of spring!

Gingkos are dioecious (separate male and female trees) and this one is almost certainly male, as females are rarely planted in public (because the seeds smell so bad).
