Mistakes (Errore)
On the way back from school, I got off at a bus stop that gives me 2 options to go home. It's fun to try out different routes. Not only does it give me alternatives if I run late, but it also increases my confidence in this new city.
What I told the kids that I tutored in HK applies to me just the same, especially in class: the more mistakes you make, the more you'll know and the more you'll remember. The worst is when you don't try.
There's something strange about trying. You feel a little silly when your answer is wrong, but somehow you really remember the correct answer. Being right is definitely overrated.
The best language learning experience I've had was probably in school and university with friends from China and Taiwan who spoke Mandarin. Never learnt the phonics, didn't have textbooks, simply by trying, making mistakes and memorising them. I love speaking in Mandarin :)
This photo was taken at that bus stop. Porta Palatina is the first gate into Turin built by the Romans. I love seeing collapsed or old structures. They give a place meaning and visible history. Skyscrapers are a little boring after awhile.
