The Mitchell Library Dome, Glasgow...

Well folks...I've been thinking! I've said it before, I live in the city, and don't really like that! Blip has opened my eyes and made me seek out many parks and lovely open spaces in and around Glasgow! But after a long shift, it's dark, and I'm not the most imaginative 'home' blipper...so WHAT to blip after work , on dark evenings??!!

When I have moaned about city living, several friends have checked me and assured me Glasgow city is full of wonderful architecture!! I have seen it, it's just not my foremost love! (Although I DO love beautiful Churches!!). At my present loss though, I have decided to be thankful that (a) I have a lovely home, albeit in a city, and (b) I do CHOOSE to live here because I love my present job, and many folk don't have any job!!

SOOO...

I'm going to try something new!! It'll be a learning curve, and I sure haven't mastered it at all yet!! But after long shifts, on dark nights, I'm going to be thankful for this lovely architecture....go seek it out....and try and share some of that here!! I do have to admit that Glasgow at night can have a lot of beautifully lit buildings and bridges...so I'll give it a bash shooting some, and learn a bit about night photography while I'm at it!!!

Tonight it starts with the Copper Dome of the Mitchell Library...

"History

The library was established with a bequest from Stephen Mitchell, a wealthy tobacco manufacturer, whose company, Stephen Mitchell and Son, would become one of the constituent members of the Imperial Tobacco Company. It contains the largest public reference library in Europe, with 1,213,000 volumes. While composed mainly of reference material it also has a substantial lending facility which began in 2005. The original North Street building with its distinctive copper dome surmounted a bronze statue by Thomas Clapperton, entitled Literature, often referred to as Minerva, the Roman goddess of wisdom, opened in 1911. The architectural competition for the library's design took place in 1906 and was won by William. B. Whitie." (Wikipedia)

I know it's a break fo me....but I quite fancy educating myself about some of this lovely architecture...maybe I'll quit moaning!! And it won't be every night/day anyway...just after long day shifts, while the dark nights are still with us!!!!

Sorry this is so long!!!

And I've NO idea why the sky is not dark!!!! Bizarre!! Need to read up on that!!!

Night!!
