Hope
The redeveloped Tallaght Town Centre is a mix of high tech office buildings, restaurants, shopping, hotels and apartments. It is opposite the Square Shopping Centre and close to the Institute of Technology. The people of Tallaght fought for decent facilities for their young people. The area has the youngest population in the country and is bigger than some of our cities, being seriously neglected for a long time.
Sadly the multi-plex cinema closed over a year ago and there is no sign of an alternative. The new Hotels closed due to the economic slump and a lot of empty premises now look onto the pedestrian areas.
On the positive side, the library and theatre face onto well conceived open spaces that host food markets and the Luas (Tram) feeds right into the centre. It has a great cultural feel.
They will hang on in there...
