River invertebrate monitoring

Had a fascinating day on the River Almond at Almondell Country Park, doing invertebrate surveys. This training event was organised by the Riverfly Partnership and is aimed at helping angling groups monitor and thereby help conserve the river environment. By sampling the river on a regular basis, changes in invertebrates can be monitored and a decline in their numbers is often an indication of pollution being present.

The course far surpassed my expectations and I look forward to beginning the surveys on 'my' stretch of water.
